Juneteenth: the national holiday (June 19th) just set aside yesterday (June 17, 2021), by President Joe Biden to honor and remember the last slaves in Texas to hear the news of their freedom, some two years late. Opal Lee, a black lady of 94 years young, has nearly, single-handedly, spearheaded for decades an initiative to get Juneteenth onto America’s list of national holidays. She’s marched throughout our nation with the motto that we’re not a nation of blacks, or whites, nor any other races in particular. We’re Americans–period. Clear and simple. No more, no less.

The chains of slavery were broken that day in 1863 by the announcement of The Emancipation Proclamation, but to this day, the idea that one race “should and have” dominance over another certainly still exist in America and the world at large. Why else would the Republicans at large try to suppress the voting rights of the downtrodden? To gain a voting advantage in their favor, that’s why.

These numerous voting restrictions that have been recently passed in states with Republican governors are no more than a modern extension of the Jim Crow laws of the past. Whatever goes around, comes around, and whatever “whatever” is, is almost never positive!
