Christian Nationalism seeks to marry Christianity with American patriotism through governmental policies. America was founded on religious freedom. Our 1st Amendment specifically spells out that our government will not sanction any particular religion. There shall be separation between church and state.
Yet Republicans, at large, seek to coerce Americans into Christian molds by enacting laws that further Christian principles in American culture. You don’t force people into Christianity by limiting their free will to chose. Christ didn’t do it and neither should we. Jesus’ Kingdom is strictly voluntary.
Just look at the Crusades for example. Two to six million people killed in the name of Christ. You either confessed Jesus, or you were terminated. Then there’s Hitler, who claimed Germany a “Christian” nation, but did everything in his power to eliminate the Jewish nation.
Jesus didn’t need the blessings of the Roman Empire to promote His Christianity. And He doesn’t need to suppress our free wills in order to accomplish His Father’s will. He works providentially, behind the scenes. He rearranges man’s sinful mistakes into positive outcomes.
I have to question Christian Nationalism’s vertical connection to the Godhead, since they are so at odds with their horizontal connection of man to man–their brothers (and their neighbors). Trump’s (and his MAGA supporters) hateful rhetoric towards immigrants, Democrats, LGBTQ+ and in general, everyone who shares a different opinion from them, is assassinating their character and often their race, too. Christ says you can’t righteously worship Me, if you’re at odds with your brother. First get the two-by-four out of your eye, Then you’ll be able to see Me clearly. I John 4:20-21 and Matthew 4:20-21
Hateful words and vicious lies have the same thing in common with an AK-47: They both cause death. The AK is fleshly and immediate; being unrighteous may take longer, but it lasts forever.
