The setting for this painting is slightly west of the High Bridge (and samed named roadway) located on a finger road branching off A1A, which is approximately eight miles north of Ormond Beach. These beautiful Royal palms have been clinging to the canal banks ever since I can remember. This is the eastern part of what we Ormondites call, “Going around the loop” drive. Where the westward end of these palms meet the bend in this canal, used to be a neat restaurant called Cobbs’ Corner. It’s long gone and so is the 10 ft lounging gator, which always parked itself on the opposite side of the bank from the restaurant’s screened-in porch. Ah, the taste of old Florida as it once was! I was indeed fortunate to experience it in my youth.
