Oftentimes the hurdles in life present situations that require difficult decisions. Just because Christians are under obligation (to God) to obey their country’s laws, doesn’t mean that we don’t answer to a higher authority (God Almighty Himself) when the situation merits it. When our American laws infringe upon an individual’s religious beliefs, often, the Supreme Court is called into action.

Unfortunately, Kimberly Jean Davis, the 2014 clerk in Rowan county, Kentucky who refused to issue same sex marriage licenses because of her Christian beliefs, has been through a living hell to uphold her beliefs. Our courts didn’t support her, but legislation made it possible for her to remove her name from marriage certificates. She still is confronted with competing masters, but remains true to beliefs. Praise God.

You see I’m holding a Christian flag (universal flag for mostly Protestant Christianity) next to the American flag. While these flags exist on the same level (in my design), I pledge my allegiance first to the God who allowed this great nation of ours (America) to come into existence. Christians are under obligation to obey their country’s laws–except when they conflict with God’s. The phrase “One nation under God,” makes “God before Government,” the supreme protocol. I hope and pray that my Christian beliefs are never challenged to the extent Mrs. Davis’ were. Obviously, she took the Bible verse, “But whosoever shall deny Me before man, him will I also deny before my Father which is in Heaven,” seriously! Matthew 10:22

Then again, some crazy, armed person may burst into my church worship service and demand that I deny Christ or die. That’s a tad more serious decision than Mrs. Davis had. I know what I would want to say to the terrorist, but whether or not I’d have the courage to do so, I can only speculate upon. Come quickly Lord Jesus (especially for the Christians who are risking their lives every day to spread the Word).
