I felt it most appropriate to place an antique water pump on one of Monument Valley’s twin “Mittens” rock formations, thinking they (the rest of the fingers) were in perfect position to function the pump handle. And as hot as it’s been out west this year, you wouldn’t be able to touch an iron pump handle without mittens of some sort.

But, for the pumps to work properly, they often need to be primed first. That means having some small quantity of excess water on hand to pour down the spout to exit the air. Similarly, the Chinese have had some success at seeding (priming) clouds to bring forth rain in parched areas of their country by certain types of rocket launches. Nobody knows how this might affect mother nature in the long haul. But in the here and now, as in our western USA, there’s been a constant need for adequate rain– like forever. It’s past time that competitive nations (like China and the USA in particular) started working together to achieve their very own survival, not that I’m in total agreement with a weather modification system as China is presently using and proposing for an exponentially greater expansion. One that could easily, negatively, affect the amount of rain in other adjacent countries.

You see on one hand (left mitten) you have the means to pump water. The opposite hand is on the rocket trigger which provides possible rain solutions for the future. Unfortunately, the world has experienced many a situation gone badly by men trying to alter nature to fit into their sand box.

The world should pray that man doesn’t end up with another atomic “rain” bomb to have to worry about doing away with his existence.
