While the January 6th Capitol insurrection was mainly the result of mostly Far-Right “religious” radicals, their ideologies are for the most part championed by the lesser extreme Christian Right. Both say they seek a Christian US nation, and obviously the first mentioned, will stop at nothing to accomplish their mission–including seeking to establish Donald Trump as the winner of the 2020 election.
Problem is that wasn’t Jesus’ mo. He never forced anyone to follow Him. And He certainly didn’t go about changing any local Roman laws to do so. And remember Peter being told by Jesus to put his sword away after he wacked-off the arresting officer’s ear. The Christian fight isn’t against flesh and blood, but sin itself, furthered by Satan’s enticements. Eph. 6:12
Unfortunately, the likes of Ronald Regan’s Republican party has taken a permanent hiatus. So much so, that we will most likely never be able to recognize the GOP as such again. You can thank one Donald Trump for pulling the wool of deceit over his Christian believing supporters. I can forgive them once for their falsely supporting him. To do it again in 2024 (should Trump be nominated) is simply stupidity. And if by chance he’s elected, you can kiss our democracy good-by in a heart-beat.
The next thing you know, there will be state sanctioned Christianity. Jesus didn’t preach that. One must come to Jesus unencumbered. It there is no choice but to accept Christianity other than death (or a living death), that’s total negation of our God-given free will. God says He provided enough evidence to mankind that He exist by what He has created. He doesn’t need man’s Christian forcefulness (Christian nationalists?) to make disciples of Christ. In fact, doing so, I think, is counterproductive to true Christian evangelism.
