Haughty Humpty

Building boarder walls (promised by haughty Trump that Mexico would pay for) isn’t the answer we Americans should be seeking to solve our immigration problems. Even well respected Republican President Ronald Reagan had a heart when he stated in 1984 that: “I believe in the idea of amnesty for those who have put down roots and lived here, even though sometime back they may have entered illegally.” He went on to denounce hatred: ”We must never remain silent in the face of bigotry. We must condemn those who seek to divide us. In all quarters and at all times, we must teach tolerance and denounce racism, and anti-Semitism and all ethnic or religious bigotry wherever they exist as unacceptable evils. We have no place for haters in America–none whatsoever.”

Sounds like to me he’s speaking directly to Mr. Haughty and the backboneless Republican party that half–heartedly supports him. What a disgrace they all are. If I were to substitute appropriate now words for Senator Lloyd Bensten’s famous debate quote of 1988 to Dan Quayle, it would shout to be repeated: “Mr. President (as in Trump), you’re no Ronald Reagan.”

There Trump sits in all his radiant, arrogant glory–before his fall. “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” (Proverbs 16:18) Is he donning a dunce hat or a KKK hoodie? Take your pick–he’s equally guilty of wearing them both, but mainly for not initially condemning the KKK rallies. But how can we blame Trump this time, since he’s an instigator of hate from the onset of his campaign. I’ve got news for the Donald: America was great before he entered the picture! But humane also. All his insistence on bringing hate to the fore of American politics reminds me of Adam and Eve’s introducing sin into our world. They ate the apple; He thrives on divisiveness.

My apologies for subtlety using the human middle finger for the like appendage of the saguaro cactus. This vulgar gesture sums up my feeling towards Trump’s promised wall of hate that he came riding into office atop. Sometimes you just have to get down and dirty to combat the like. You’re familiar with the saying “fighting fire with fire,” aren’t you? (Sorry, Mrs. Obama, I wish taking the high road were enough to dislodge Him from his lofty, arrogant opinion of himself).

Although Humpty Dumpty is now considered a nursery rhyme, the words probably derived from the name given to a powerful cannon used during the English Civil War (1642–49). But I’m taking the liberty of using this word in a much broader context, as in loose cannon–you exemplify it well, Donald!
