The wisdom of Solomon is exhibited in how he handled two women who both claimed to be the mother of the same baby. He told them he’d have the child split in half. To which the real mother consented to give her child up to the other mother rather than see her (biological) child executed.

The pro-life position on abortion seems to parallel Solomon’s. Pro-lifers say, “Don’t abort under any circumstances. Simply have the baby and put it up for adoption.” But for women who have become pregnant through rape and/or incest, carrying an unwanted, un-asked for fetus to term is more than most women can (and should?) bear. Add to that the health concern for the mother and/or the fetus in rare cases throws a monkey wrench into pro-life–with no exceptions law.

Splitting a baby in half would be about as gruesome as it gets. A coat-hanger abortion may seem far removed by comparison, but both can have the same result–death. Although there’s arguments for and against abortion biblically speaking, most hinge on exactly when life begins–at conception, or viability, after the second trimester, or when the baby exists the womb and gets its first “breath of life.” I really don’t feel qualified to present a valid argument for either side, since I’m a male, but I certainly lean toward giving the innocent fetus the benefit of any doubt–life.

And, yes, I can well understand Texas’ Republican governor Abbott taking a pro-life position, but for the life of me, I don’t understand him claiming to be pro-life and not consenting to mandating COVID-19 vaccinations. Ok, you save fetal lives but take away the already born lives-go figure. As the saying goes, “You can’t have your cake and eat it too.”

As I write (9/8/21), the legalities of Roe Vs. Wade are being pin-balled ricocheted by legal eagles from states with Republican governors into states with Democratic governors with override edits from the present Democratic administration. Throw in US judges’ injunctions at random, and you’ve got a recipe for failure. Nothing new under the sun (Ecclesiastics).

Ironical observation: Our American Bald Eagle has exponential more protection than an unborn child–20,000 dollar fine and/or five years imprisonment for its killing. Unfortunately, in America in particular, there’s much more value placed on an animal who won’t make it past its death than a human being who will. Go figure.
