The January 6th, 2021, Capitol protesters (make that insurrectionists) tried their “unlevel” headed best to take a bite out of our democracy by attempting to overthrow the governmental process that was seeking to routinely verify the 2020 election win of President Joe Bieden. Many protesters flew the “Do Not Tread on Me,” Gadsden flags. To them, it most likely represented not backing off, with paramilitary like power, their mistaken belief that Trump’s election defeat was rigged. Trump’s speech that day egged them on to take violent action against our democracy. Even to the deaths of five people.

With a similar mindset of winning future elections at all costs, whether nationally and/or locally, these Republicans have already changed voting laws to restrict the voting rights of lesser means people. These new laws mirror the Jim Crow laws of our past history. Again, this is a slight and bite out of democratic process. Joe Biden is attempting to right their ship of white supremacy with overriding legislation. Our very democracy is at stake! Pray he’s successful.
