The Gothic novel, Frankenstein, published in 1818 by Mary Shelley, tells the story of a young scientist, Dr. Frankenstein, who creates a human-like monster being from used human body parts. His creation is infused with the ability to think on its own and. consequently, eventually turns the tides on its creator.

Sound familiar in today’s vernacular? First with the cloning and black market procurement of human body parts to prolong life, and now days, the use of artificial intelligence to give thinking “brains” to what was just functioning, programmable robots. Sure these (sub-humans?) can be used for jobs that no one wants to perform, but when they get programmed to actually think and reason as a real human being does, “We have a problem, Houston.” How do we kept the “Jack in the box” when he’s been taught to think outside the box? Simply put: we can’t!

Are sinful scientists (not unlike everyone else for that matter) capable of programming a robot with better moralistic behavior than themselves? I think not. If God chose to create a free-willed entity, I dare say no human has the capability of improving upon his creation. Let’s be very careful not endow a “Dirty Harry” Ai with the capability of confronting mankind with his challenge of: “Go Ahead Make My Day.”
