While the Israelites were wandering in the wilderness, their grumblings and discontents weighted heavily on their Creator. So much so, that He sent poisonous serpents to attack and kill many of them as punishment for their unbelief and malcontemptment. Given time for the Israelites to come to their senses, God relented by rectifying the situation in a somewhat ironical manner. He commanded the Hebrews to stare straightforwardly upon a raised serpent symbol, entwined onto a pole by Moses, in order to be healed.

This raised serpent image has long been believed to be a foreshadowing of Jesus being crucified–for mans’ sins–and then, lifted up (resurrected) in order for men to be able to do likewise at Christ’s return. (Numbers 21:4-9 and John 3:14,15)

Obviously, I’ve taken the liberty of combining these thoughts into an altered, traffic light road sign that seconds as a cross, coupled with a corresponding curves ahead road sign representing the serpent.
