Yeah, that’s a Stealth bomber flyover at the playing of our national anthem. But it’s also six, hand guns pointed downward. Their compressed, bullet paths (superimposed over the stadium attendees) form a bar/wall barrier (OK, boarder wall), screening John Q. public, during the playing the National Anthem, from seeing any of the NFL players who choose to kneel in protest against the inequalities of law enforcement and justice against blacks. Wouldn’t want a mere protest to continue to negatively affect the bottom line for the (poor) owners of the NFL teams now would we?
This blue vertical bar/wall also reflects the extremely dangerous environments that exist in many poor and depressed cities of our nation (i.e., south side of Chicago) where law abiding citizens are imprisoned in their own homes because gangs and drug lords roam about with easy access to weapons. And drive-bys often kill innocent people inside their homes!
This is the general edit from the NFL owners to this coming 2018 NFL season concerning what’s allowable and not for the NFL players while the Star Spangle Banner is being played and/or sung: “Stand-up or stay-in.” Only to be “Trumped” by the Dallas Cowboys’ owner, Jerry Jones, who states that any player that doesn’t stand (in front of the stadium fans for our anthem), doesn’t play! I mean we players have been but pawns for the owners for the 20th Century. Nothing has changed in the 21st. Players are employees and apparently cannot (legally) protest (1st amendment rights) without the consent of their employer! (I am in agreement that this isn’t the “proper time” to stage such a protest. But often a social movement needs an act out of context and/or it’s proper setting to get meaningfully noticed).
Of course, when all of this broke initially, a number of the NFL owners (including Jerry Jones) stood (or should I say knelt) alongside the protesting ballplayers. That changed in a New York minute after seeing the league’s attendance drop approximately 10% last year. Money trumps everything, right Donald? Our president is apparently going to ride his patriotic horse till it croaks. A patriotic president would have never publicly downgraded the sacrifice John McCain made in fulfilling his military duty. Nor would a patriotic president publicly disrespected one of our Gold Star families who happened to be Muslim. (Kind of reminds me of how difficult it was for blacks to convince the military during WW 2 that they were, indeed, capable fighting men for any branch of our services).
Mr. Trump has withdrawn his initial invitation for the World Champion Philadelphia Eagles to visit the White House. It seems he got word that only a few players were going to show up, so to save face, he officially uninvited them. Ironically, all the Eagle players stood at attention during the playing of our National Anthem throughout the 2017 season, but their refusal to attend Trump’s invitation (mainly, because of their protest beliefs) speaks volumes against their disillusionment with his presidency. And in case you didn’t know it, almost all of the Eagle players are practicing Christians (making them automatically subject to the governing authorities–talk about being between a rock and a hard place!)
If any employer had said publicly the words “Fire the sons of a bitches,” about any group of employees, he or she’s business would have probably taken an immediate hit. But whose to fire our Commander in Chief–especially when he just tweeted that he has the power to pardon himself! Is he starting to erect his defense against impeachment already? What a doofus.
Make no mistake. I wish to express my deepest respect and gratitude for the police forces of America that place their lives on the line every day for the safety of we citizens of the USA. But in all fairness, most of the videos we Americans have been shown (repeatedly) are of police enforcement gone wild with excessive force. I realize that there’s almost always a page two of video (usually not shown to the public initially) leading up to what the media shows that usually isn’t favorable to the victim’s defense. Still, I just can’t fathom how many officers seem to get away with manslaughter. Yes, I admit to having little or no knowledge of police procedures–especially how they vary from one city to another throughout our nation, but “stand your ground,” wasn’t passed with the thought of self-defense from armed police–was it? Big brother isn’t “just watching” anymore–not that he ever was!
