I suppose this request (the graphic title) is going out as a prayer to a higher source (i.e, God) who is believed to be able to keep CTE from happening in this particular player. When I played for the Pittsburgh Steelers back in 19 none of your business years ago, CTE was, not-knowingly, already ancient history before being discovered. Back then, If you didn’t get your butt back in the game after getting your “bell” rang, you were looked upon as being a sissy. Now concussion protocol is followed to the “nth degree. And that’s a good thing, right Martha?

CTE is no respecter of persons. It can and does affect one player and not the one playing next to him. It’s literally a ticking time boob. You’d think that only the football positions taking the “big” hits would be more susceptible to CTE, but that isn’t the case. In reality, offensive linemen seem to suffer the most.

They don’t incur the spectacular hits but give and get hit on every play. So the cumulative effect easy outweighs the intensity of any given hit. My career (five years in the NFL) got cut short due to an automobile accident, but looking back, it might well have been a blessing in disguise. Who knows whether or not by playing another three to five years I might have developed CTE in me. Knowing what I now know about CTE’s incidence, I don’t believe I’d have take the chance.
