Well, Ron DeSantis is at it again: He’s a professed Catholic but thinks caging up human beings in oversized bird cages, most likely without AC, is somehow not inhumane. Part of his problem is that he aligns himself with the likes of President Trump. Bosom buddies I believe is the expression. More like the Bobbsey twins.
Of course Trump is on a rampage to deport almost everyone whoever got into our country illegally or overstayed their visa, green cards, etc., etc., etc. He’s even trying to resend birthright citizenship, which is unconstitutional–at the present. This negative treatment of foreigners coming into our country is nothing new to America. DC Cardinal Robert McElroy said that there is a feeling being projected (mostly by the Republicans) that the incoming immigrants are somehow inferior to our naturalized citizens. That same negative narrative was advanced when the Irish came to America. Ditto for when the Italians and Poles came.
Since Trump’s suggestion of reopening and refitting Alcatraz to house the overflow of processing illegal immigrants is too expensive, Ron DeSantis has taken the initiative to open a deserted airport in the middle of Florida’s everglades, which is surrounded by alligators, pythons, and misquotes.
And just to inhumanely mock these at risk immigrants a little more, Trump gestured on how to avoid a gator attack by not running in a straight line. How crass is that? (Even that maneuver is considered questionable by scholars).
Now Trump is considering opening other detention centers throughout America. Kind of like America’s WW2 Japanese interment camps–with outhouses! Certainly not a future tourist stop on Route 66.
