OK, I admit that there’s no such word as Hollowood. But the misspelling (artistic license) conveys my thoughts (visually) in a single word about tinsel town. This is not to say that I don’t enjoy many of the movies they produce, but most of them aren’t conducive to solidifying my (and many others of like mind) Christian values. (Not that they are in any way obligated to do so). It seems the more skin, sex, and destruction they can show, the better their chance of profiting. Too bad, huh? I’d like to think we Americans deserve better.
Many of the lifestyles of the rich and famous represent those who shouldn’t be emulated and none that should be idolized. Every other day it seems like we get another unveiling of another celebrity (i.e., actors/producers and athlete/coaches) who’s had a past history of some disruptive, negative behavior that has finally come to light. Or their deaths were caused by overdoses of whatever from doctors who succumb to the power of money. (Notice that the Los Angeles Police microwave and radio tower’s multiple, white, circled (receptors?) have been replaced with colored opioids (oxycodone more specifically), which are rampant in our society). The DEA do their best to keep America free of this drug poisoning, but what’s an enforcement’s effectiveness to do in the face of people craving an escape from reality or simply wishing to experience a “recreational” high?
Now, I’m not saying that the actors and athletes don’t frequently stand up for good causes–because they often do. What I’m trying to communicate is that we “common folk” in America should be wary and cautious of placing anyone in particular on a pedestal–because in all likelihood, they will eventually fail your expectations. And the fact that you don’t measure up to the Hollywood “image” shouldn’t lead to your demise. Get a grip on yourself. If you need someone to look up to for fortification, try Jesus. He’s not going to fail you in this life, and in all probability, He’ll get you comfortable and at peace with yourself and others into the next (with your submission to Him, that is). Amen?
We Christians Americans are trying to hold this godly ship afloat in the US of A. The Christian flag is shown being flown at half-mast, honoring the many Christians who have suffered greatly (even to their deaths) for the cause of Christ. Mostly outside of the USA, but not always.
PS: Way back when I played for the Steelers in 19 none of your business years ago, certain pills (?) were distributed to various players (by whom?) to enhance their performance. We “O” linemen never used them for fear of not remembering our plays. I’m glad that was so, because I didn’t want to look back and know that I cheated the game in order to possibly man my position more effectively. If we ballplayers back then were to be paid the salaries that today’s players earn, I might have had to resort to taking steroids just to remain on a level playing field. Who knows for certain. But I do know that taking them can create a major health risk while playing and well beyond. I’m speculating that I would have remained steadfast in abstaining. After all, I’m not that money oriented to begin with.
