It’s no secret, that as a Christian, it is most difficult to keep the world at bay. We really don’t want to avoid it by passing around or even ignoring it. We must instead pass through it, as Jesus did through the Jewish enemy territory of Samaria, where He ministered to the Samarian woman at the well.
When we align ourselves with the Body of Christ through baptism, it can be said that we, in fact, have merged into His body. We are now in His Kingdom and share in common, the rights, privileges, obligations, and obediences of all the other saints.
As an automobile driver, merging into freeway traffic can get a little scary at times. So can making the decision to merge into the body of Christ. Leaving your old self behind isn’t just a one and done thing in baptism. It’s more of a daily commitment to yourself and Christ to keep that old self from resurrecting itself from that watery grave of baptism.
