Recently I viewed an internet story/ad that was about how the states’ legislators, predominately Republicans, of course, were going to “guard the vote” in the 2024 voting process. The ad purportedly had a depiction of a gun upon a table (that was later pulled from the ad), apparently attempting to (absurdly?) indicate to what extent their effort of intimidation the Republicans might have to resort to in order to achieve their objectives.
The Republicans have been trying to suppress the accessibility for people of color, and minorities to vote for almost forever: “When Reconstruction ended in 1877, states across the South implemented new laws to restrict the voting rights of African Americans. These included onerous requirements of owning property, paying poll taxes, and passing literacy or civics exams.” Even though the Civil Rights Laws of 1965 put a dent in the suppression of voting for people of color, voting suppression still exists in the form gerrymandering, intimidation, stricter ID voting registration, poll times unfavorable for blacks and other minorities, etc., etc., etc.
It’s no wonder there is such political division in our country with another presidential election about to take place in 2024, and Donald Trump, the probable Republican nominee, still remains a kingpin for his continued discrediting of our American Democracy.
Shame on him for his first 2016 term in office. Shame on us Americans, if he gets elected
