OK, admittedly, this isn’t one of the new bullet vending machines that have already been placed in the grocery stores of three states. But it hits home on one’s easy accessibility to potential evil over apparent good.

A goodly number of Republicans believe that, if all people were packing, then that in itself would be a deterrent to anyone even thinking about unleashing any firepower upon another individual.

My thinking is quite different. The easier the access to guns and their ammunition, the more likelihood to resort to use them in any given confrontation. Especially, to save face. Pride goes before destruction. Without guns as an equalizer, an individual might think twice about confronting a situation with only their bodily force.

Case in point: At The Oyster Pub in Daytona Beach, FL several decades removed from the present, a patron got embarrassed by a local, good natured, clown. He hurriedly left and returned to shoot dead this beloved funny man at point blank range. The police apprehended him shortly after the murder. Yes, he was just released from prison and shouldn’t have had a gun in his vehicle. Easy access to guns and ammunition may have played a major role in this murder.

Just like easy access usually played a role in all our school shootings.
